agh!

The sound! it makes my ears bleed! Turn that volume down on the sound, ok?
also, the plot was a little... meh, so i'd advise writtign a script and something more next time.
Also, the graphics and animations were kinda cheap... i was oping for a little more... ah... versatility (sp) than just alpha deathm, but that's not too big of a problem.
on the whole, it needs a lot of work with plot, which is my biggets beef. also, i would like ot see some quicker animation and some more consistant graphics and themes...
it's a little hard to follow.
ok work at best, 2/5. I hope you continue to apply and improve yourself. good luck

Which brings me to my next point: Don't skip English class.

ha ha...

At first, i thought this would be bad, but i found the voices incredibly halarious, because i can do all those voices, and it's just damn funny...
the garphics.... ah... were something left to be desired, and the animation could have been better with the slicing of things and the attacks... but not BAD.
The music was fantastic, and even though not exactly to the mood, was very cool. The laugh for kefka was funny...
Not too much of a story, so a score of around 3.43 is my prediction.
Good work and keep at it (who knows... i could do voices someday?) and congrats... it got a few laughs out of me, but work on graphic presentation and the battle animation a lil more.

3/5

Vinstigator responds:

I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for the review :)

nope...

from a technical standpoint this was sloppy and poorly comprised. The sprite sheets for the background even skipped in the begining! As a matter of fact, the music looped poorly, the action was horrible. You even used the most primitive of gradients for the lasers!
The text was boring and didn't flow well... erm... bad grammar too.
I was very disapointed as to what was going on, why things happened, and the whole presentation of the matter. Bad backgrounds, unimaginative story, and overall bad flow of things.
Very unasuring and i'm not quite sure how this got daily 1st when others are much better. It's a shame, but it's how i feel: Disapointed. Ugh, it moved may too slow and was 2 MIN LONG? agh! you barely put anything in this.

I'm sorry, this earns a 1/5 from me, this showed no effort at all.

SquareHard responds:

sorry it came out choppy, im still new to flash, it runs jus fine before i export it, then it jus goes to hell >.<, thx for the review tho, i will try to put something better for u on the next one, and also, u have to watch the previous 4 episodes, or ull get confused where the storylines going, thats why u probably didnt like it

hm... didn't appreciate it...

A lot, a lot of these showed a lack of effort. some looked good, great even in some spots, but many of them were about 7-10sec movie slips that prolly could take about 10 min to do. I wasnt' very impressed with this latest installment. Lots of eye-candy all over the place, but no real concept and no real point. I was disapointed on that aspect. Although many of artists showed some talent, on the whole, it didn't sync very well, some of the music loops looped horribly, and well, i pick out little things like that, and to me, messed the whole flow of the movie.
I would suggest setting rules and regulations and sticking to them as well as picking an elite few (7 perhaps?) so that you can some-what filter quality, because some of these looked like crap and brought the other things down... on the whole... not collab'd so well... i was expecting more time, effort, and quality.
best of luck on the next one.

SeizureDog responds:

10 mins? :o man I wish...

But yeah, eye candy was kinda THE point I guess. It's sortof....artish methinks.

None of the musics (well, one did) looped o_O, so I fail to see how they " looped horribly"

And if these artists didn't meet your standrad for "elite artists" then I imagine you expect me to acquire talent like LegendaryFrog or Tommy can for their collabs. Hey, I'm not THAT good myself. I have to stick with equals.

But in any case, we had fun, and we got an award. I can't really ask for much more really.

well made...

despite little action, i care more for story anyways... and although it's a little... odd... it's neat to see you guys pulled ahead with it. The sounds and music were excellent and the best aspect next to the style...

not writting up to the level of old FF's but i liked it....

try and have more animation techniques that you make rathjer than taken sprites... i always think all those fire dance one's are sloppy...

good work tho... keep at it.

Tootbook responds:

Thanks man, we appreciate it :)

Well made...

I always saw this as somethign that stands out from the rest of a lot of sprite animations I see. The writting, and plot, for that matter is much better, although some parts are a little redundant and some spelling errors...
It shows effort, I like that, especially the rpg aspect to it... a little linear, but good. The graphics, and animation techniques are vastly improved from the last, although you could deal with a bit more diversity on the running...
The intro was alright, it works fine, just the repeating background urked me a little.
Also, the sound was a tad repetative.
The images were well made, and the battle animations were far abover average to the usual sprite movie. Very well made, and good presentation. I could still stand to see you get some more sound effects...
As always, the music was well chosen and I hope to help you write this time! ;) sorry, i had my movie (TT) to work on like crazy.

But in the end, this gets my 5/5 because it is an intersting take and a very cool submision overall with much effort being shown for such a short ammount of time to make it.

Mangna cum laude!

BlackDevilX responds:

WHY!!! i told you not to mention that!!!

Well done

Good fbf, but may i suggest only have what needs to move be fbf, and the static background stay the same. it saves some file space and could be better.

But good work, i can't give u a high score because, well, this isn't a movie!
but keep up the good work, lookin good so far.

FLiXD responds:

Yup that's fair enough. I will lose the background wobble. Thanks for taking the time to write a review

good...

not great by all means.
the art was fantastic, and the lyrics were cool
WW500 beat me on the notice of the latin! he transtaled fairly correct, if not complete...
too bad that the singer pronounced the latin wrong!

TheZebu responds:

And all this time I thought people were going to critisize my german....

Hm...

People probably won't like this review, but i will base it on two things. How actual movies go, and the style/theme/message.

Movie aspect: The graphics were not bad at all, however I see you used motion tweens for the joints and movements in each character, which believe me, works only a minimal ammount. Explore a little more fbf (as we all should) and that'll smooth out the graphics a bunch. It works here, but for any future works. Because i could see theoutline of the upper leg in the soccer player, and the lower leg didn't connect quite right sometimes, as with the 'night gunman', etc.
This is all ok though because it is what it is, but always try to improve. I was alittle disapointed with the 'goal scene' which was an outline of 2 ppl, and not all drawn, full body, stick figure, body... it's ok, but don't get too lazy with that.

Sound was good as far as music went and it fit the mood well enough, and no sound brought out a little more that if it had been there.

Message/Theme aspect: Good theme, well made, and emotional enough. Not exactly to my understanding all the time because you didn't portray all too much, at least not enough good in the world. The priest, homeless man, and children were excellently portrayed and the diversity was well put. However I'm not a huge fan of this particular work just because of the style, i don't condemn it at all. It was well made and you should be proud of the good effort you put into it.
Even though it's not to my liking, i give you a 7/10, and a 4/5. The effort was well displayed in landscapes and still(er) art, but improve your animation technique. Good work, and keep at it.

AloneInTheDark responds:

Thanks alot for the review. I actually used alot of frame by frame too in the movie. Only i used it on not so obvious moments (like the guy who's head is turning, the boxer punching, the lips of bush, the insecure girl, etc etc)...

But i tried not to focus too much on the visual aspect. It would only make the filesize bigger and the purpose more confusing. But thats my opinion.

I've been coming to Newgrounds since about 1997, when the best score was 3.63 (fun fact). Things sure have changed since then. I used to animate...but I probably won't anymore. I revisit sporadically. I left my crap up here as a way to look at the past.
